Less, Further

Spec Campaign for Montane

Overview

Less, Further is a Montane spec film created to introduce the brand through an Australian lens while retaining the globally premium feel the brand is known for. The project is built around a simple ambition: to make Montane feel like it belongs here. Rather than presenting the product in a generic outdoor setting, the film places it inside an iconic Australian landscape so the brand feels immediately relevant to local hikers and trail runners while still carrying the technical, elevated language expected of an international performance label.

Objective

The objective was to establish Montane in Australia and build both brand desire and product credibility through premium cinematic language. The film is not just about making the apparel look good; it is about making the gear feel proven, purposeful, and aspirational for a local audience that cares deeply about performance in real conditions.

Audience

The work is aimed at Australian hikers and trail runners, a fast-growing audience looking for technical gear that performs. These are people who care about movement, endurance, layering, and reliability, but who also respond to brands that understand the environments and mindset that shape their pursuits.

Challenge

Montane is established in the UK, Europe, and the US, but has limited brand presence in Australia. That created a clear creative challenge: the work needed to feel globally premium while also creating local relevance. It had to preserve the brand’s international credibility while giving Australian audiences a reason to feel that Montane belonged in their own outdoor world.

Strategy

The strategy was to film in an iconic Australian landscape to signal “Montane belongs here”, then expand the idea into a paid-social campaign system built around hook-led openings, proof moments, and multiple versions for iteration. That approach treats the hero film as the centre of a broader content system rather than a one-off asset, allowing the creative to stretch across placements and audience touchpoints more effectively.

The concept showcases Montane through themes of restraint, endurance, and forward movement. Instead of over-explaining product features, the film conveys a sense of technical confidence through its use of landscape, pacing, and physical effort. The gear is depicted in action rather than in isolation, giving the brand a more premium and credible presence. This approach allows the product to gain attention through context, evidence, and atmosphere rather than through aggressive marketing tactics.

Visually, the film emphasizes the expansive Australian terrain, controlled movement, and high-quality outdoor imagery, creating a campaign world that feels both aspirational and grounded. The result is a film that positions Montane as a serious performance brand tailored for Australian conditions, rather than just an imported name entering the market.

Outcome

The final outcome is a speculative campaign that illustrates how Montane can be introduced to Australian audiences through premium, locally relevant creative content. It demonstrates how the brand can cultivate desire and credibility in Australia while maintaining the elevated tone that characterizes it internationally. Additionally, this campaign showcases in.FRME's broader approach to outdoor marketing: identifying cultural gaps, creating a clear emotional narrative, and developing visually compelling assets that are strategically valuable and ready to perform in various formats.

The concept is effective because it provides Montane with local relevance for a growing audience interested in hiking and trail running. It maintains a disciplined and clear creative message, with each asset focusing on a single key takeaway rather than trying to convey too much at once. Most importantly, the project is organized as a campaign system that includes multiple versions instead of just one video. This approach makes it more effective in the market and aligns better with how modern brand creative performs.
